MYSTICAL AND SOLEMN
The events of Hunting Grounds of the Great Spirit take place on the plane that Native Americans reach when their spirits are about to leave their physical bodies. This place is also where shamans go during their trances.
The Hunting Grounds of the Great Spirit are therefore a sacred place. The clearings are its churches and the animals its officiants. This mystique is conveyed by the rays of light weaving the mist in the middle of a clearing with gold, or the scale relationships between the tiny visitors and the trunks of the venerable colossi are the branches that form the forest canopy.
ANCIENT
The Hunting Grounds of the Great Spirit are an ancient place and therefore marked by time. This age is borne by the rocks, inscribed in the moss-covered bark, but is also expressed by the young mushrooms growing on the stumps and fallen trees. Some areas are devoured by moss, clearings are strewn with branches, rocks have been split by frost, and signs of human presence are largely erased.
MAGICAL AND DREAMLIKE
The Hunting Grounds of the Great Spirit are also a magical place where shamans draw their energy and seek their visions. Thus, supernatural elements blend into the environment. There, a rock has torn itself from the ground, held together only by a few roots. Here, a mist of sapphire and gold flows between the roots of an ancient giant. Elsewhere, strange glows swirl around an ancient totem pole. Luminous crystals and bioluminescent mushrooms light up the nights of the hunting grounds. Some animals are shy and only reveal their presence when visitors approach. The colors of the flowers and fruits are also more vibrant, and the intertwining of the roots creates complex patterns on the ground.
DAY: WONDER AND CONTEMPLATION
During the day, visitor is relatively free to move around in a peaceful environment. He can then wander between points of interest highlighted by the sun. He passes from a stump covered in mushrooms hidden deep in the forest to a broken rock covered in half-erased glyphs before pausing in the shade of a giant sequoia to observe the play of light in the tall grass stirred by the wind…
NIGHT: FEAR
At night, the hunting grounds become much less welcoming. The moonlight illuminates a few points of interest, guiding the visitor who, without a torch, must move from a bioluminescent mushroom or a gigantic luminous crystal to the shower of light in a clearing, venturing into the darkness between them. And woe betide them if they encounter the evil spirit that haunts the woods at night: the Wendigo. All that remains is a frantic race through the shadows and brambles, hoping to find one of the all-too-rare opportunities that will allow him to escape his pursuer.
It should be noted that this fictional universe was created with the help of a Native American consultant, in order to best respect indigenous cultures.
